Sandra Beckwith is a recovering publicist with more than 25 years of award-winning publicity experience. She has received a coveted national Silver Anvil award from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) for her shoestring publicity program promoting a subscription newsletter she created and has judged several Silver Anvil and Bronze Anvil competitions.

In addition, Sandra has received a national award for creating, managing and publicizing the best public relations program in the beverage alcohol industry; is the youngest and first female recipient of the lifetime achievement award from PRSA’s Rochester, N.Y., chapter; and has received five regional PRSA awards for publicity success.

Self-employed since 1985, Sandra’s professional experience includes positions at Burson-Marsteller/Chicago, one of the world’s largest public relations firms. She was a product publicity manager at the former Heublein Inc. in Hartford, Conn., a beverage alcohol distiller/marketer. She has a degree in journalism and public relations from Utica College of Syracuse University.

Sandra is the author of two publicity books – Streetwise Complete Publicity Plans: How to Create Publicity That Will Spark Media Exposure and Excitement, a how-to guide for small business owners like freelance writers, and Publicity for Nonprofits: Generating Media Exposure That Leads to Awareness, Growth, and Contributions, a step-by-step manual for nonprofit organizations. She is also the author of WHY CAN'T A MAN BE MORE LIKE A WOMAN? In addition to conducting winning publicity campaigns for her own books, she has successfully promoted the books of several other authors.

Today, Sandra uses workshops and one-on-one coaching to help individuals and organizations learn how to generate their own publicity. In addition to “Book Publicity 101: How to Build Book Buzz,” she teaches a workshop for entrepreneurs and others called “How to Become an Expert,” and offers a half-day in-person workshop for corporate media relations staff called “How to Write Press Releases that Sizzle.” A full-time freelance writer, she is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the American Society of Business Publication Editors, and the Public Relations Society of America.
